Level 1 Unit Planning

A boy with his teacher presenting work

There are three layers in planning that are needed to lay the groundwork for high quality literacy instruction.  The first layer includes the scope and sequence of thematic units taken from concepts within the science and social studies standards. Science and social studies standards are rich with topics that have the potential to spark special interests, hobbies and functional applications, and promote social and collaborative opportunities and skills rooted in many professions. These topics can come together as themes can be used to engage students in literacy activities.

Expect the best, plan for the worst, and prepare to be surprised." (Denis Waitley)

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." (Anatole France)
